What is Hyperinsulinemia?

Hyperinsulinemia, is a condition in which there are excess levels of insulin circulating in the blood relative to the level of glucose. In simple terms, a condition where the amount of insulin in the blood is higher than is usual or considered normal amongst non-diabetics. When a person has hyperinsulinemia they have a problem controlling blood sugar, meaning that the pancreas has to secrete larger amounts of insulin to keep blood sugar at a normal level. While it is often mistaken for diabetes or hyperglycaemia, hyperinsulinemia can result from a variety of metabolic diseases and conditions (see: Wikipedia).
